What are the benefits of registering a BCBC account?

Benefits of registering an account on betacell.org include the following:

  • Sign up for email announcements of resources as they are released,
  • Access and request reagents and services online,
  • If you are affiliated with a BCBC investigator, you can access BCBC private resources,
  • Submit weblog comments on the resources pages, such as reviews for antibodies,
  • Manage your own private reagent collections,
  • And more...

Do I need to be an official BCBC member to register an account?

No, you do not. Anyone can create an account on the website. Your privileges will depend on your affiliation.

What if I forget my password?

  • Click "Login" anywhere on the BCBC website.
  • Click "Don't remember your password?" at the login page. Enter your account email address, click on "Reset Password".
  • Check your inbox.  A new and temporary password will be emailed to you.
  • The email will contain further instructions on how to proceed.

How do I add publications to my profile?

Only BCBC investigators may add publications to their profile. Publications are added by using a PubMed ID, unique for every publication in PubMed/Medline. A tutorial is available to guide you through the process. Alternatively, you can go manage publications via your "profile management" page.

How do I join the BCBC?

BCBC participating investigators submitted grant applications in response to National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive, and Kidney Disorders (NIDDK) grants RFA-DK-04-017 and RFA-DK-04-018. Investigators were selected on their scientific merit and suitability in meeting the consortium?s mission and objectives. New members can join only by submitting applications via BCBC grant RFAs. The BCBC releases periodic Pilot and Feasibility and Seeding Collaborative Research grant RFAs, and grant awardees are invited to participate in all consortium activities for the duration of their grant period. Please check the news highlights section of the BCBC website for future RFA opportunities.

What is an RSS news feed and how do I use it?

RSS stands for Real Simple Syndication. In other words, and as it pertains to the BCBC, RSS is used to syndicate our news to external websites and personal news readers.

You can subscribe to our RSS feed via your browser, mobile phone, RSS readers, etc...

How can I fix rendering (formatting) issues with the betacell.org website? Specificially, I have an odd-looking whitespace below the main site search box.

In some cases (we have reproduced this with Ubuntu linux), you will need to install the Microsoft "core" fonts on your system.  After you have done so, restart your browser and the issue should be resolved.

For RPM-based systems, you can find the fonts here.  Apples OS X appears to have these installed with the system.

What web browsers to you support?

We can no longer support IE6 or IE7.  While most of the website will function, some functionalities may be limited or inaccessible.  We apologize for this, but the effort required to maintain non-standards-based browsers is too high.
