PubMed ID - Tutorial for Publications Management

What is a PudMed ID?

Each record in PubMed (Medline) is assigned a unique identifier - the PubMed ID, or PMID for short. This number is always displayed in the PubMed citations.

Where to get a PubMed ID for your citation?

Go to Pubmed and find your citation (eg., type in your last name and initials, for example "Lacy PE"). From the results listing, scroll to find the citation that you want the PubMedID of. In the citation's bottom left corner (circled in red below) is the PubMed ID (a.k.a. PMID). Record that number (eg. copy it to clipboard) and enter it (eg. paste) into the form to add publications.

What journals are indexed in PubMed?

Not all journals are indexed in PubMed. However, a listing of journals indexed by PubMed is available (warning - this file is more than 3MB in size, compressed versions are also available). Therefore, if your journal is not indexed by PubMed, it has no PubMed ID and cannot be added to your BCBC profile.
