The Beta Cell Biology Consortium (BCBC) website provides online information, communication, and resources of interest to beta cell biologist and the scientific community at large. The terms discussed as follows apply to all materials, online communications and other information that is or becomes available on the BCBC website. By accessing and using the BCBC website you agree to abide by these terms and any modifications thereto.
User Conduct
In connection with the use of the BCBC website, you shall abide by all applicable federal, state or local laws, including those pertaining to such areas as libel, slander, defamation, trade libel, product disparagement, harassment, invasion of privacy, tort, obscenity, indecency, and copyright or trademark infringement. The information available on the BCBC website may include intellectual property that is protected under the copyright, trademark and other intellectual property laws of the United States and/or other countries ("Intellectual Property Laws"). Such Intellectual Property Laws generally prohibit the unauthorized reproduction, distribution or exhibition of all text, photographic and graphic (art and electronic) images, and other protected materials. You may not modify, publish, transmit, participate in the transfer or sale, create derivative works, or in any way exploit any of the content of the BCBC website. You may download copyrighted material for your personal use only.
Prohibition Against Rogue Programming
You shall not post, transmit or make available in any way through the BCBC website any software or other materials which contain a computer virus or other rogue programming. The BCBC has no obligation to detect the presence of any rogue programming. Any downloading of software or other materials or any other use of the information on the BCBC website is at your own risk, and you are advised to take adequate precautions to minimize any loss to your system caused by rogue programming, including use of anti-virus programs and proper backup of files.

The Beta Cell Biology Consortium (BCBC) is committed to protecting your privacy. Any information we collect is stored on servers owned by the BCBC which are held in physically secure locations and are protected by firewall and password based security measures.
The policy below outlines what information we collect, why we collect it, and how we use that information.
Basic Information We Collect and What We Do With It
When you search or request information on the BCBC website, we may ask you to supply your name and email address. This establishes a minimal "user profile" for you on the BCBC website. We do this so that we can personalize your use of the website.
Information We Collect for Requests or Orders
If you place a request or order through the BCBC website, we will prompt you for address and contact details that will allow us to accurately fulfill and invoice you for the items you request or order.
If we ask you for particularly sensitive data, such as credit card information for payment, then this is passed over a secure encrypted (SSL) connection and we provide a third-party certificate which can be used to verify the credentials of the BCBC server you are supplying the details to. In the case of credit card information, this is stored on a server separate from other customer's information and is destroyed after any payment has associated with an order has been processed. In particular, this information is not stored with your user profile and is not accessible via this mechanism.
Other Information We May Collect
You may be asked to supply minimal contact information, such as your email, when posting reviews or comments to the BCBC website. You may choose to provide this information, or you may choose to remain anonymous. If you choose to remain anonymous, we do not reveal your contact details on the website, which allows comments to be posted without compromising the security of your personal information.

For example, in order to ship a package to you, we have to tell the shipping company your name and address and possibly phone/fax number.
